Alessi Seminar - April 11-15, 2022

Since 1996 the Fondazione Fossano Musica organizes, every two years, an important musical event for trombonists from all over the world: the Alessi Seminar.

Joseph Alessi is the first trombone of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra since 1985. Every two years, however, a very small group of professionals and students who, with Mr. Alessi's help, want to improve their trombone skills, meet up on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, in Italy and more precisely in Fossano. The 2022 edition will take place from April 11th to the 15th in  Palazzo Burgos. The Alessi Seminar brings back to the city which was once the home of Acaja dynasty one of the world's foremost trombonists. It is organized by the Fondazione Fossano Musica with the support of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Fossano.

The seminar lasts five days.

Joseph Alessi plays S. E. Shires Trombones

This year as a special edition, Mr Alessi and FFM will host the entire Vienna Philharmonic Low Brass section for concerts and classes.

S.E. Shires will be present with an exhibit of instruments to try out.

Auditors

Student auditors: 30. No audition is required. Each Auditor must fill out the Application Form

Mock Audition

This year the Alessi Seminar will host a Mock Audition. All Student Participants are eligible to compete. The members of the committee will be Joseph Alessi, Hans Stroecker, Enzo Turriziani. The decision of the committee will be final. Two First Prizes for the amount of € 500,00 each will be awarded to the participants who score the overall highest points, one for tenor trombone and one for bass trombone.

Stay in Fossano

THE CITY

The city of Fossano is located in southern Piedmont, 100 km from the Mediterranean Sea,

50km from the mountains and is 20 km from the heart of the Langhe, recently decreed a UNESCO world heritage site by the UN.

Fossano has approx. 25,000 inhabitants, very little traffic, most places are within walking distance and it's very safe. It is rich in history and art and is well-served by train  to Torino with departures every 30 min.

There is a lot to offer for tourism as well as for someone who might decide to move here (it is recommended to activate the page translator)

** To ensure the highest safety of all participants and to respect the current legislation on Sars-Cov2 epidemic containment, students will be allowed to attend the Seminar provided that they have a green pass certificate (for EU citizens) or show a vaccination certificate or the results of a negative Swab test done no more than 48 hours before entering the school.
